Clairemont Home Remodeling

Although the concept of suburban living is commonplace today, this approach was considered novel for the time. Clairemont set itself apart as a progressive and eco-conscious community that influenced the migration of San Diego city folk into the region’s suburbs. Today, conservation and eco-activism are traits Clairemont residents take to heart— and is what led neighbors to stop retail developers from building in both the San Clemente and Tecolote canyons. And now more than ever, Clairemont is a peaceful, family-friendly neighborhood that enjoys low crime, affordable housing, and pleasant year-round temperatures averaging 66 degrees. But what do families enjoy most about living in Clairemont? The variety of international restaurants! Culturally-diverse taste buds will be pleased to know that Clairemont has attracted fabulous eateries from around the world, including Vietnamese, Lebanese, Mediterranean, Mongolia, Caribbean, and Hawaiian. Clairemont also boasts one of the busiest small aircraft airports in the nation, Montgomery Field, where many residents and San Diegans alike, join flying clubs and soar over the beautiful shorelines.

Clairemont, the first post-war suburban community in San Diego

In 1950, Carlos Tavares and Lou Burgener developed what became San Diego’s largest post-war subdivision. Originally dubbed, “The Village Within a City,” families came to live and create happy, easy going lives in Clairemont in May, 1951. Clairemont’s design represented a new concept in community living because it turned away from the traditional grid system of uniform blocks and streets. Instead, Clairemont’s winding streets and scenic views took advantage of the canyons and bluffs overlooking Mission Bay. Within a few years, several thousand houses had been constructed, including single-family homes.

Building with us in Clairemont and coming back for more

We completed a front and rear addition for the Templins in Clairemont almost ten years ago and had some very satisfied customers. Fast forward a decade, and they were ready to add on a second story and expand their kitchen and family room. We opened up the kitchen area by taking out the support wall and engineering the remaining walls to support the weight of a second addition. Being huge sports fans, we made sure the large flatscreen was visible from everywhere within the family room and kitchen so no one would miss a minute of the game.
