This small coastal enclave is home to the Del Mar Fairgrounds, home of the Del Mar Racetrack, known for it’s famous slogan Where the surf meets the turf. Every summer for six weeks, thoroughbred racing comes home to Del Mar. Opening day is particularly famous for its parades of outrageous hats worn by race fans. Del Mar is also one of the two locations where the Torrey Pine tree grows. You can hike down the cliffs of Torrey Pines State Park for wonderful views of the beach and a taste of what California used to look like.
